Description

Check valves (also called non-return valves) are designed to allow fluid flow in one direction and prevent backflow or reverse flow that can damage equipment or disrupt processes. At Fluent Valves, our check valves are built with precise engineering to operate reliably, even under fluctuating pressures and turbulent conditions.

Variants:

  • Non-slam Check Valve: Designed to minimize slamming on closure. Equipped with damping mechanisms (like spring or hydraulic cushion) to reduce impact, noise, and water hammer.
  • Swing Check Valve: Features a swinging disc that moves open with forward flow and closes via gravity or reverse pressure. Suitable for moderate flow and low to medium pressure lines.
  • Dual-Plate (Double Disc) Check Valve: Has two spring-loaded plates hinged in the center. They are compact, lightweight, and suitable for tight spaces. Low closing torque, fast response.
  • Wafer Check Valve: Thin and compact, fitted between flanges, minimal footprint. Can be of swing, dual plate, or other internal mechanism types.

Our check valves are offered in various actuation options (manual, spring-assist, or automatic), with features such as position indicators, silencers, and options for low-pressure drop designs.

Key Features

  • Reverse Flow Protection: Prevents backflow to protect pumps, compressors, and piping.
  • Low Head Loss: Designs minimize pressure drop in forward flow.
  • Non-slam Operation: Prevents hammering and shock on closure (for non-slam types).
  • Compact Design: Especially in wafer and dual-plate types.
  • Fast Response: Quick closing action when flow reverses.
  • Wide Material Range: Can be made from steels, stainless steels, alloys, depending on media.
  • Minimal Maintenance: Few moving parts, easy replacement of internal plates/discs.
  • Versatile Configurations: Flanged, wafer, lugged, butt-weld, etc.

Applications

Check valves from Fluent Valves are used across industries, including:

  • Oil & Gas (to protect compressors and pumps)
  • Petrochemical & Chemical Processing
  • Power Plants (steam, feed water, condensate lines)
  • Water & Wastewater Systems
  • HVAC & Building Services
  • Marine Systems (ballast lines, drainage)
  • Process Industries (prevent reverse flow in reactors, vessels)

Standards & Compliance

We follow relevant standards like: API 598 (test & inspection), ANSI / ASME flanges (B16.5), face-to-face / dimension norms, BS / DIN norms for certain types. We support special certifications as per customer request

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions about our check valves:

Ball Valve

A check valve allows fluid to flow forward and automatically prevents reverse flow. It protects pumps, pipelines, and system stability by blocking backflow.

  • Swing uses a hinged disc.
  • Non-slam includes cushioning to prevent slamming.
  • Dual-plate (double disc) has two plates that close quickly.
  • Wafer type is slim and installed between flanges.

Yes - by using suitable materials (alloys, stainless) and design for the required pressure and temperature classes, our check valves perform reliably in challenging conditions.

Some pressure drop is inevitable, but Fluent’s designs aim to minimize head loss, especially in dual-plate and wafer types.

Consider flow direction, pressure class, media, installation space, closing speed, and whether non-slam characteristics are needed.

Yes - we perform hydrostatic and seat leak tests per API 598 or equivalent standards. We can also supply inspection certificates and third-party verification, as needed.
